Two other recent stamps showcase singer Kate Smith (above) and actress Katherine Hepburn. Both had Philadelphia connections of sort: Hepburn from the classic movie The Philadelphia Story, which revived her sinking career, and Smith for her legendary connection with the Philadelphia Flyers. Smith's rendition of God Bless America has been used at Flyers games since 1969. So iconic is her status with the team that years ago a statue of her was erected outside of the old Spectrum.
