A Portuguese postcrosser sent this postcard from Braga along with a photo he took in Spain.

blakeslee post office + flag drop box

On my way up to Kingston yesterday, I pulled off at the Blakeslee post office on Rt. 115. The painted mail box on the side of the building turned out to be drop box for old flags, something I had never before seen. In Kingston, workers were out in front of the big post office there, protesting closings in the Wilkes-Barre area. I wanted to check that out but the post office had closed by the time I finished the errand that had taken me to Kingston.

paperboat project

I made this altered card to tell mrpotani about the great paperboat project I recently came across online. An international collaboration, it was devised by artists Joanne B. Kaar and Lynn Taylor to raise funds for Mary-Ann's Cottage, a living history museum in Caithness, Scotland. Luckily, before sending the card, I noticed I'd put the wrong address on the paperboat, then promptly wrote it out wrong again. A Finnish postcrosser named Paivi took what she called a "little blunt and ordinary card" of Superman and enlivened it with collage. Fun stuff!

playpen balls falling from the sky

A Belgian postcrosser named Micol sent this cheery altered card. She wrote that she would love to fill her apartment, or at least one room, with plastic playpen balls. In the meantime, she altered this card, which shows her city of Brussels, to show playpen balls falling from the sky. "Wouldn't that be great?" she asks. OK by me!

indigo art

Friend Jozef Bajus is in a group show at Indigo Art Gallery in Buffalo, New York. The show, which runs through April 26, features work by members of the Buffalo State College Design Department.

restless oaks

I bought this card on a trip to northeastern Pennsylvania. It's from a local restaurant named Restless Oaks. The restaurant was nothing special but the telephone box outside is definitely a disappearing artefact of 20th-century life.

A Dutch postcrosser sent this funny 'party animal'. She wrote that the message printed in Dutch reads, "I hope this card reaches you on time."

Doses from Daily Issa (www.haikuguy.com/issa) figure in both of these cards, which I made as samples for the altered postcard workshop in Ocean City. I've now sent one card to a haiku-writing friend and the other to a postcrosser.
